World-class research facility
The Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre (IOMRC) is a world-class collaborative research facility in Perth, Western Australia. Development of this facility has been made possible with a $34 million grant from the Australian Government through the Education Investment Fund and contributions from four collaborative partners.
This major investment consists of two projects, with UWA appointed as the lead for both projects. A new $62 million facility was constructed at The University of Western Australia’s Perth campus and an $11 million upgrade was given to the Department of Primary Industries Watermans Bay Marine Centre. Collectively, both of the buildings are known as the Indian Ocean Marine Research Centre.
As well as sharing research infrastructure, IOMRC partners are conducting research collaboratively, leveraging the complementary expertise and resources to deliver a deeper understanding of the marine environment of Western Australia.
